British Columbia Horticultural Coalition (BCHC)

Schmunk, Gatt, Smith & Associates have been the official employee benefit representatives for the British Columbia Horticultural Coalition (BCHC) since 1997. Participating members can receive benefits tailor made to their industry at a reduced cost.

GROUP LIFE INSURANCE * Mandatory Benefit
All Workers

Class 'A' - Four times annual earnings to a Maximum Benefit of $850,000

Class 'B' - Two times annual earnings to a Maximum Benefit of $25,000

Benefit Reduction
Coverage reduces by 50% at age 65, it reduces another 50% at age 70 and terminates at retirement.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment * Mandatory Benefit
All Workers

Class 'A' - Four times annual earnings to a Maximum Benefit of $850,000

Class 'B' - Two times annual earnings to a Maximum Benefit of $50,000

AD&D Critical Illness The employee will receive 5% of the principal sum to a maximum of $10,000 if if the employee suffers from a Heart Attack, Stroke, Cancer or Kidney Failure.
DEPENDENT INSURANCE * Mandatory Benefit
Spouse $5,000
Child $2,500 - Child up to 14 days - $500
LONG TERM DISABILITY * Mandatory Benefit
Coverage 70% of monthly earnings
CPP Integration Your benefit cannot exceed 85% of your monthly pre-disability gross salary or your net salary if the benefit is non-taxable.
Elimination Period 120 days
Benefit Period To age 65
Own Occupation You are eligible for benefits for a three year period for Class 'A' and a two year period for Class 'B' from the date LTD benefit payment commence, if you you unable to perform the usual & customary duties of your own occupation. Thereafter benefits will continue only if you are unable to perform the duties of any occupation.

Tax Status This benefit is not taxable if the premium is employee paid
EXTENDED HEALTH CARE * Mandatory Benefit
Deductible Single - $25
Family - $50
No deductible for drugs, hospital or travel emergenices.

Hospital in BC Semi-private charges
Orthopedic Shoes Each Year - $400
Orthotics - $200 per year
Accidental Dental Covered
Paramedicals Maximum of $500 per year, per specialist.
Chiropractor, Podiatrist, Psychologist, Acupuncture, Speech Therapist, Osteopath, Registered Dietician, Christian Science, Naturopath, Chiropodist & Masseur.
*Physiotherapy is unlimited.
Hearing Aids $500 Every Three Years
Oral Contraceptives Covered
Special Nursing Maximum of $20,000 every three years - for acute conditions only
Medical Services & Supplies Covered
Prescription Drugs Drug Card - Covered at 80%, 90% or 100%
Ambulance Covered
Emergency Travel Insurance Worldwide coverage for emergency services only outside of B.C. to the standard rate of charge in that area
DENTAL CARE
Annual Deductible Single - $25
Family - $25
Basic Coverage Covered at 80%, 90% or 100%
Recall Examination Adult - Every nine months
Children 20 & under - Every six months
Major Restorative Covered at 50% for - Caps, Crowns, Bridges & Dentures
Annual Maximum Combined Maximum of - $1,500
Orthodontic Care (optional) 50% for dependent children, $1,000 lifetime maximum.
SHORT TERM DISABILITY
Coverage 66.67% of weekly earnings
Maximum Benefit $750 per week
Elimination Period Accident - 1st day
Sickness - 7th day
Benefit Period 17 weeks
VISION CARE
Coverage Glasses, Contacts & Laser Eye Surgery
Maximum Each Person is eligible for $100 of benefits every 24 months, dependent Children under 18 years of age, every 12 months.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Continuation of coverage Upon death, health & dental coverage continues for dependents for two years without premium payments. If totally disabled for six consecutive months your Life Insurance & AD&D will be continued with no premium payments for as long as you remain disabled
Seasonal Benefit Coverage Full-time employees who are not working during the winter months can still be fully covered for up to six months with payment of premiums.
